In African sport, Egypt is best known for their performances at the continent’s football showpiece, the African Cup of Nations.
Yet, Egyptian athletes like Ali Farag who has arrived for training is one of the dominant squash players in the world.
Ali Farag is ranked the third best men’s player in the world. Five more of his compatriots are in the worlds top 10 of the sport.
“Having the chance to play with so many high-level players is something you can not find anywhere else in the world.” Elsewhere, it takes 30 minutes to find, for example, British champions live far from each other, one in Sheffield, the other in London, it’s not the same for them.” Egypt’s world number 3, Ali Farag said.
The success of squash in Egypt does knows no boundary. This success is the result of an investment made by the Egyptian society. It is not uncommon to see mixed players training together.
“Now you will see that girls are so involved in this sport that they have exceeded the number of men in the top 20 and 30. It is also because we have examples of champions that we seek to emulate.” Egyptian squash player,Nouran Gohar said.
In addition to becoming a fixture in world squash, the Egyptians have revolutionized the game by making it more offensive, creative and entertaining.
